Hardware trick: This applies to all ATX power supplies, hold down the ON/OFF (big) power button down for about a minute, the supply switches off by itself. Software trick: Add the line append="apm=on" into your /etc/lilo.conf, run lilo as root and re-boot. Next time round, when you issue the command `halt' the m/c shuts down without user intervention.
