Ok, so now I'm having problems with my ISP's mail server, so forgive me
if this gets posted twice.  Anyway, I found out what the problem was. 
It was a bum cpp package in sid.  Oops.  A simpe apt-get update/upgrade
fixed it.  I guess that is what I get for running unstable :-(
