When I had problems like these, at one time the cdrom drive was dying, at another time the cdrom couldn't cope with home burned cd's. The latter is the most frequent cause of the problem. Unfortunately most linux cd's are hoem burned, not pressed, and some older cdrom drives have a hard time reading burned cdroms. Same cd, same drive: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. -- groetjes, carel
