I'll try that. Now I think that there definitely is greater problem mit X, if I switch to the console, type something and then switch back, X will die. I'm using xfree 4.1 from woody, 2.4.18pre9 under an IBM thinkpad A30 (Radeon Mobility M6 LY). If someone might find the strace of the dieing xserver helpful, I can send it.
