/etc/X11/XF86Config probably needs tweaking in the "Pointer" section. I
have a PS/2 mouse, and had to adjust it to
#Section "InputDevice"
# Identifier and driver
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/gpmdata"
If you have something else and can't find the right incantation, you know
where to ask!
