You might try saying M to Intel ICH (i8xx) audio support What is the output of the lspci command? If it lists VIA for the sound, then say M to VIA 82C686 Audio Codec If its a 1371 based sound controller, then saying M to Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI 97 (ES1371) should do the trick. Hope this helps.
