I'm talking about a "computer I have complete access to that we have assigned to the function of an FTP,HTTP Server"! I got root access to that server and I can put the mirror exactly next to it so I'm not forced to run all this through a secure connection. Running it through ssh would be still better, though. We are just planning to mirror that whole server to test a complete upgrade potato-->woody. If mirroring works fine, we would like to use the mirrored box as a second server in case of a crash / 'emergency'. rsync looks pretty powerful. I'm just not sure if it's smart to rsync the kernel and everything else to a machine with different hardware. thanks for your help philip
