I fixed an identical problem recently by getting new RAM - my old stuff had gone bad.
apt-get install memtest86 Run this over your memory and see if it comes up with any errors. Be warned that it takes a while (I let mine run for an hour or so before giving up because it had topped 1000 errors). Otherwise, have you upgraded your kernel recently?
