this is what's in my /etc/locale.gen (setup by x configuration, i believe). this enables me to see umlauete, euro symbols, etc., on an en_US system. de_DE ISO-8859-1 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ISO-8859-15 en_US ISO-8859-1 ben
