Done. The 'search' line probably does no damage (other than to waste some time), but it almost certainly is useless and was put there by someone who does not understand its purpose. Take it out. Man resolv.conf. The ip's appear to be whidbey's nameservers. -- Yes, I verified this. My internet provider confirmed that these are the nameservers. Now, why does lynx not open any website, nor does ping www.debian.org work? Would, please, somebody come up with a constructive suggestion, other than reading man resolv.conf, which confuses me even more, since it says "On a normally configured system this file should not be necessary"?
