What model G3 is it? (beige, blue&white, etc) The G3 exists right at the cusp of the so-called OldWorld and NewWorld power macs. The different types of power mac have different boot requirements. The beige G3 doesn't fit entirely into either new or old world, and requires its own boot software similar to loadlin in the x86 world. The beige G3 needs a tool called BootX to boot. It's actually a MacOS application/extension that loads the Linux kernel. BootX does support PowerMacs other than the beige G3, and I wouldn't be surprised if you could actually use it to boot a Debian installation image directly from MacOS. I've never actually done this myself, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. Also, I wouldn't be so quick to assume that the Mac can't boot from its external floppy. The firmware should see it just fine. Hopefully this will get you started. Good luck. noah -- _______________________________________________________ | Web: http://web.morgul.net/~frodo/ | PGP Public Key: http://web.morgul.net/~frodo/mail.html
