i already did this, because, well it is a bit hard to explain, but dselect wanted to remove a bunch of software, i had to quit dselect, i did the following and everything is fine now, but, er it is the second time i did this, essentially i am telling dpkg to quit bothering me about uninstalling many packages, i cant think about what i initially tried to remove or install to get that going - oops

is there a way in dselect to achieve the same result?

ddd:/var/lib/dpkg/xxx# cat wipedeinst.sed

# sed -f wipedeinst.sed <status
s/Status: deinstall ok installed/Status: install ok installed/
