- From man dpkg: dpkg -S | --search filename-search-pattern ... Search for a filename from installed packages. All standard shell wildchars can be used in the pattern. Notice the _installed_ part. Use this to figure out where a file on your system came from. I assume you are trying to find out what package you need to install to get a certain header file.
