IMHO, for b/w printing that _will_ always work, try swaping your printer for HP DeskJet series - I have the old 500 and it works perfectly. Refiling the cartridge is cheap; can't complain. If you want good quality, look for a printer that is supported under Linux. Either it is PostScript or some other open standard. Looking at magicfilter, these are the printers/standards you get at least support for folloing printers: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/magicfilter$ ls [EMAIL PROTECTED] cpsonly300-filter ljet3-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] cpsonly400-filter ljet4-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] cpsonly600-filter ljet4050-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] deskjet-filter ljet4l-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj500-filter ljet4m-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj500c-filter ljet4ml-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj550c-filter ljetplus-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj690c-best-filter ljetpluslo-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj690c-filter ln03-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj690c-low-filter m8510-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] e312-filter necp6-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] epson9-filter oki182-filter StylusColor-generic-filter epson9c-filter pj-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] epsonlq-filter pjxl-filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] epsonlqc-filter pjxl300-filter bj10e-filter ibmpro-filter ps300-filter bj200-filter jetp3852-filter ps400-filter bj600-filter la50-filter ps600-filter bj600_draft-filter la75-filter psonly300-filter bj610-filter laserjet-filter psonly400-filter bj800-filter laserjetlo-filter psonly600-filter bj800_draft-filter lbp8-filter r4081-filter cps300-filter lj250-filter stylus800-filter cps400-filter ljet2p-filter tek4693-filter cps600-filter ljet2plo-filter tek4696-filter But this is the lesson we all have to learn - looking for hardware that is supported under more than Winblows.. Then again, it is usually the better hardware that is supported for Linux based distros anyway... - Adam PS. ALL cheap ass printers are cheap because companies do not make money off of them - they make money when you buy ink. Thus, cheap printers usually have unrefilable cartridges...
