Problem: Any 2.4 kernel I've tried, 2.4.18 - 20, ac patch for .20, or kernel from Woody install cd with boot option bf24 fails at this prompt:
boot: Loading 4th BIOS data check successful Uncompressing Linux. . . Ok, booting the kernel. And there it hangs. 2.2, any custom kernel or Woody install cd works. The system is based on the Shuttle mainboard FX41 with a VIA KM266/VT8375 North Bridge, and VIA VT8235 South Bridge. Web page: http://us.shuttle.com/specs2.asp?pro_id=155 I have a CD-RW installed (secondary master), two IDE drives (60 primary master and 40 secondary master), an Athlon 2100+ and and one stick 512 megs 2100 DDR. 2.4: no go 2.2: fine Any clues on what I could be doing wrong? I've been through kernel options over and over - probably compiled kernels 15 times or so - maybe more (it's pretty fast on 2100+ with 512 megs and the hard drive tweaked with hdparm), tried Woody boot disks with 2.2 (works) and bf24 (boot with 2.4 option) and custom kernels, patched ac kernel, various BIOS tweaks and settings. Same messages each time on any 2.4 boot. I'd love to get this thing up and running - any ideas? Happy to provide any clarification if need be.
