GNOME is a distributed system with many components. You can choose to use a lot or just a few of these components, and a varying number at any given time. What is your goal in determining the "memory requirement" of gnome? If you are aware of the GQM model of determining metrics, it can help you here. Basically, first choose a _G_oal. Once you know what your goal is you can make a _Q_uestion that will tell you if you have reached that goal or not. Then you can determine a _M_etric that will answer your question. To apply it here, if your goal is to determine if you have enough memory in your system right now, then state how much memory you have and ask "will I be able to use gnome comfortable with this much memory or will the system tend to thrash?". HTH, -D -- How to shoot yourself in the foot with Java: You find that Microsoft and Sun have released imcompatible class libraries both implementing Gun objects. You then find that although there are plenty of feet objects implemented in the past in many other languages, you cannot get access to one. But seeing as Java is so cool, you dont care and go around shooting anything else you can find. (written by Mark Hammond)
