pppd should be

-rwsr-xr-- 1 root dip 218524 Sep 29 07:00 /usr/sbin/pppd

(I was wrong: you _do_ want the 's').

This is ok. (I assume that you meant '/etc/ppp/options'). What does
'll -d /etc/ppp' say?

You may need to reinstall the ppp package.

I'd still like to know how pppd came to be in the 'src' group.
