Are you sure you have install "xserver-xfree86", and are not running a different xserver? Are you making your manual edits to /etc/X11/XF86config-4 which is the config file used? > XF86Setup it claimed that "you've got a running server". I don't believe that can be used to configure xfree86, on the other xservers, but I'm not positive on that. For an LCD, use hsync=35-65 and vsync=50-90. This works for me on any LCD screen.
