Thanks, I'll definitely check out those sites. Regarding your font advice, changing the fonts changed the browser display, but not the JavaVM stuff. My XF86Config-4 file looks like this fontwise:
# This loads the Type1 and FreeType font modules Load "type1" Load "freetype" # Load "Speedo" Load "TrueType" . . . FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Latin2/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/" Speedo is commented out because X won't start if it isn't, dunno why because the Speedo directory is there just as specified.
