Same libreadline version here, compose key working with bash in both
xterm and rxvt (æ, ©, å etc. -- so even in XEmacs!).

But this is XFree86 4.1 from unstable with
   Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
in XF86Config-4, where the windows key is predefined as compose key --
don't know if this is an option to you both.
