if you want good raid support the only way to go is SCSI.
most of those boards are usually onboard IDE raid. the
only IDE raid adapter with good linux support is 3ware.
they are not available on any motherboard, their 2port
cards are discontinued, and the 4port is the lowest end
that they offer. and its no good for raid5, only raid1
and raid10 (raid5 is possible but it has problems).

there is promise raid controllers on some boards but i would
not use them under linux until their driver support improves
dramatically. even the kernel developers say to avoid it
and tell promise/motherboard makers to make better drivers
available(or specs) for linux.

i use 3ware 6800 series 8port cards in 3 different systems,
and just ordered another system with a 4port card last week.
sofar they work great. just avoid raid5 on em.
