I often have this problem on my laptop. I'd like to know the reason, maybe it's the same as in your case. I get the sound if I start a mixer program (I use aumix), touch the CD line (i.e. change the CD volume setting once a bit back and fort) then quit. After that it works, for some reason. /Ville
