Are you saying that you now have _two_ Files sections?

Yup. startx, etc. without a hiccup.

XFree86 wouldn't let me start until I bracketed those two FontPath lines--the Section/EndSection seemed logical, and is just the first thing I tried ;-/

That's odd. Here's my Files Section from my XF86Config-4: Section "Files" FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/truetype" FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/gs.d/dirs/fonts" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" EndSection

Works great for me...

This is good.

But, I'm concerned about the lines:

# If you want your changes to this file preserved by dexconf, only make changes
# before the "### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION" line above, and/or after the
# "### END DEBCONF SECTION" line below.

Am I misinterpreting the warning? I manage XF86Config-4 with debconf.

I know the file almost by heart, but seem to remember Branden warning about making changes between those lines . . . .
