There is consensus that the risks outweigh the benefits if you log in
as root.  You seem to be on the opposite side of the consensus ...

By the way, your post neglected to inform us who wrote the quoted
material you responded to.  Your mailer also failed to wrap lines at
72 chars which makes your post difficult to read.
