The only thing I can think is that the kernel included in the install set is too old - AFAIK 2.2r3 uses a 2.2 series kernel, an it may not be able to deal with your setup that nicely. I guess you could either try to set it up for a generic 386, which should work, but not use your rockin' system to it's fullest and then upgrade your kernel, or try working from boot disks with a newer kernel.
