last i remember, apt did NOT upgrade kernels automatically. especially a 2.2 to a 2.4 that would be a bad thing to do automatically. you have to specifically tell it to install the kernel. try apt-cache search kernel-image-2.4 or something. if the compiled kernel is available it should show up. or go through the site with a web browser and manually find the file ....... nate (no plans to touch 2.4 for another year or so ..seems worse then 2.1.xx)
