To fix this without disabling ssh-agent all you have to do
is edit /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99xfree86-common_start, then change
exec "$REALSTARTUP" to exec $REALSTARTUP

By the way, if that's all that's in your .xsession you don't really
need it anymore.  The default scripts start gnome-session automatically
now.  Although if you have other session-managers installed I'm not sure
which one it will start.
