The Debian way is: apt-get install nvidia-kernel-src nvidia-glx-src This will download a pair of packages that will download and package (with minimal user-side intervention) the nVidia binaries in the familiar .deb format. You need a "contrib" line in your sources.list. I don't know however if this will work with a pre-packaged kernel.
