Modem drivers for the most part do not exist in linux.  Either linux can talk
to the modem or not.  Now if linux is having problems talking to the modem
there is a good chance it is one of the new software driven modems (i.e.
WinModem).  A quick search on google or in the linux kernel's Documentation/
directory may help.
