With X 3 and Matrox G200 (not same exact model), I always used the
"svga" driver under the "Screen" section.  Under the "Device" section
everything was pretty generic, 'cept I specified "VideoRam".  AFAIK
"mga" only applies to X 4.x...  In 3.x I really had to play with
modelines to get nice resolutions, but never saw any striping (sure
you've got the Monitor refresh/sync rates correct?).
