modules.conf (debian) <=> conf.modules (deprecated) would be updated by editing your /etc/modutils/aliases file with the appropriate information and then running update-modules to regenerate the /etc/modules.conf file. Or you theoretically make an /etc/modutils/local file which (in theory since I haven't tried yet with the same info so you don't worry about aliases getting clobbered on updates. --mike
