In the "Display" subsection where you specify the resolutions to use, add a Virtual line, like this: Subsection "Display" Depth 32 Virtual 1024 768 Modes "1280x1024" "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" ViewPort 0 0 EndSubsection Please read the man page for XF86Config(5).
