Hi All, recently moved to debian woody and have to admit, really was impressed with the installation etc.
Being keen on playing around with iptables and such, tried installing kernel-2.4.5 image using dselect, didn't work, it would come up with a message asking me to append "root=" in the boot options. tried doing that using rdev and also root=/dev/hda1 in lilo - didn't work so i gave up. downloaded the sources, compiled (after altering the makefile to export the root= option), lilo, everything worked. Most of the stuff works, but I have the following problem. After running for a while the kernel crashes repeatedly. The machine is usually not being used for anything except masquerading and it is often not even being used for masquerading when it crashes. heres a log entry at a crash point. The machine is left on overnight and when i get up in the morning, i am greeted with something like referenced invalid pointer in virtual memory with an address of . If anyone has any tips on how to track this down, to whether it is actually linux's fault somewhere or a hardware issue or something, it would be greatly appreciated. The box was running redhat with kernel-2.4.4 before without the kernel crashing. again, any help greatly appreciated. Shri __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
