Can you show us the contents of that file? It is not clear why this is not working. It may be that /dev/modem is not actually pointing to a valid serial device, such as /dev/ttyS2. Can you also give the output of "ls -l /dev/ttyS? /dev/modem" Do you know if the modem is an external modem, or a built in one? Cheers, Joost
