What happened, of course, is that a new version of xcdroast became available while the original poster was screwing around with dselect. That's one clear advantage dselect has over apt-get -- while you are trying to figure out what is telling you, the Debian maintainers are fixing the real problem for you. (I'm trying to be funny).
