bah. dselect is one of the most confusing things I have ever seen. Much easier to do: dpkg --get-selections > selections then edit the file "selections" so that the word "hold" is replaced with "installed" for the package you want to hold, and then: dpkg --set-selections < selections dselect is evil, I am sure of it.
