Thanks for the suggestions; it still doesn't recognize the cd.. - if it reads a disk I'll try another console to catch the device - but it's apt-get and it may not stay mounted
These don't work: - mount /dev/hdb - boot: linux ide-scsi=hdb And it could be a Master Boot Record. The win98 cd doesn't auto-start, but the Tyan (motherboard) device cd does. This a.m. the Debian 2.2R3 B1 cd boots. Running Fdisk /mbr in dos brought no visible change Suggestions appreciated/st At 02:29 AM 6/20/01 +0300, you wrote: >> How do I install the cd-rom modules to read from the cd? >> >> Currently >> 1) boot from cd, follow installation process >> 2) install modules fs: binfm_aout, smbfs, vfat; misc: generic_serial >> net: bsd_comp, dummy, ppp; >> 3) continue install to "Next: reboot"; reboot >> 4) Install continues, asks source of Debian packages >> 5) Select cd-rom as source >> 6) Install says it can't auto-detect cd-rom, asks for its location >You might try the location as hdb or /dev/hdb. >You also might try alt+F2 in order to get the 2nd vc and there try to look for >the CD in the output of mount.
