Are you using IE6 beta or have had the IE6 beta installed at any point? See: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/archive/18153.html A bug in IE6 beta would cause outlook express to blank out subject lines from text messages from non MS email clients. Otherwise there is always a few messages posted to every list without a subject.
