Yes. It looks like your updatedb doesn't do what it should do. You could try and remove the file /var/lib/locate/locatedb, and then run updatedb. Does it re-create the file? If so, does locate still show the /etc/rc* files? Does /etc/updatedb.conf have any funky contents? -- joostje
