This should install the xfree86 System including the configuration Programm xf86config. Debian 2.1 is a little bit old and a few things changed. Themes that you're a newbie, what about using Progeny Debian instead of the "real" Debian? Progeny is much more simple and has a cool gui for the installation with hardware dedection and much more.
