You'll need some UTF-8 locale. See /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED for a list of possibilities. Note that by using a UTF-8 locale at the moment you're more or less volunteering to test software that doesn't support it yet ... the state of the distribution isn't completely appalling here, but bits of it are a little ropey.
