assuming you have kernel source around to play with, recompile your
kernel (Its really easy).  I have a friend who was going through the 
exact same problems you were.  The card was there but it just didn't 
seem to work.  Worked fine under windowz but not under linux.  So I 
mentioned to him that he should recomplie his kernel.  Sure enough
support is built-in but I guess that its broken in the default kernel.
