It could be a stupid permissions problem, but that doesn't explain the exception. Only Corel can help you with this. Do you know Gimp? I can't think of a reason to use PhotoPaint when there's Gimp. If you try Gimp, I recommend you get the latest version (1.2.1). The version in Debian 2.2 is quite old and lacks some functionality.
