Aaron, You want 'update-rc.d -f xdm remove' (run as root). Use 'update-rc.d -n -f xdm remove' to try it out without actually doing anything. See 'man update-rc.d' for more info. 'update-rc.d' is one of many handy Debian-specific tools.
