there's a utility

        pidof

(from package sysvinit) that might facilitate this kind of thing:

        % pidof apache
        17858 17659 17618 16916 16914 24490
        % pidof inetd
        26200
        % su
        # kill -HUP `pidof inetd`

note spelling of INETD versus INITD (which i presume is a typo)
