i've posted on this in the past, there is an open-source project that is very good, can't remember the name really. Maybe someone on the list does ?

We have set up a couple of laboratories, and maintain their setup by configuring one machine, then uploading a tar images of the bits of it to a server, and downloading the image to all the other machines. I have modified a Debian rescue disk, so that only two floppy disks are needed to boot the target machine and link it to the server for the download. After the download a few files are semi-automatically tweaked. While this system works, it is not very tidy, and a better one would be appreciated.
