Yes, If you have SCSI then make sure you compile the kernel with Y and not M for the SCSI stuff. Otherwise you must know how to drive initrd because Debian doesn't have a mkinitrd like Mandrake, etc.
Also kernel module compiling is a hassle due to the fact that the glibc6-devel kernel version is almost impossible to get the same as the kernel you want to run.....
