Once i had a similar problem. i did two things: 1) modify the file /etc/ld.conf and added the path for ldconfig( i`m not sure about the name :-( i`m writing from a Windows machine so i can`t check it )see man for ldconfig it name the file there 2) Related to the problem was that i change glibc from 2.1 to 2.2 a really weird problem. At the end i reinstalled the system, but may be it is not your case.
