This tends to indicate a hardware problem.  Is this a laptop or fixed
box?  hdc is frequently a CDROM, I'd check all cables, power leads,
etc., and see what's going on there.  Might also try posting error
messages to Google and seeing what turns up.

You should also look at your logrotate options.  You can change out
logs which are getting too big with this.
