There is entries for it in /etc/pam.d. is there a way i can be sure pam is enabled? looking closer at the authentication done by cyrus(strace on the pwcheck program when attempting a login) it seems as though pwcheck looks straight to /etc/shadow to find valid accounts, if it finds one it then checks the password. i tested it by adding a dummy user to /etc/shadow (with nothing in password field) and cyrus accepted the user but then said invalid password. so i imagine that cyrus just doesn't support nis/pam. looking at the changelog i see a reference to update-alternatives(a command which i've never used) so it seems as if i use that i can change the config from pwcheck_standard to pwcheck_pam and that may enable support for NIS. i'll try it out tomorrow. thanks a lot!@ nate -- ::: ICQ: 75132336 http://www.aphroland.org/ http://www.linuxpowered.net/ [EMAIL PROTECTED]
